Alternator casing being machined at the Francesco Baretto plant

Medium-heavy steel fabrication and precision machining

Production

Since 1902, custom-built structures for industry

Francesco Baretto S.p.A., founded in 1902, is a joint-stock company operating in the medium-heavy steel fabrication sector. The company’s core business is the offshore and energy sectors.

Over the years the company has diversified its production into the railway and defence sectors, working with leading Italian and international customers, and into precision machining of carbon steel, stainless steel and cast iron.

Sectors

The sectors we serve

Structures and components designed in collaboration with the customer for the most demanding heavy-industry sectors.

Offshore & Oil and Gas

Large baseplates for offshore platforms, tensioner structures, oil tanks and components for remote areas and deep waters.

Energy

Turbine casings, hydrogen-cooled gas turbine alternator casings, high- and low-pressure casings, casing doors, flue-gas and water ducts, air preheaters.

Railway

Railway bogies, brake beams and railway vehicle components welded to UNI EN 15085-2, classification level CL1.

Defence and naval

Cannon structures and loading systems, tank hatches, fin boxes and stabiliser fins, aircraft-carrier engine supporting structures.

Industrial plants

Waste compactors, crane arms, eyelet valves, components for electrical systems and industrial machinery.

Machining

Precision boring, drilling, milling and tapping of carbon steel, stainless steel and cast iron, with boring-milling machines with up to 26 m of travel.
The method

A project-centric approach

We manage every order with a project-oriented method, supporting the customer from design to final delivery. All stages are handled in a single plant, under a certified management system.

01

Shared design

The engineering office develops the structural details in collaboration with the customer, starting from their drawings and project specifications.
02

Fabrication and welding

Cutting, assembly and MIG-MAG-TIG, submerged-arc and plasma welding, carried out by qualified personnel and coordinated by IWT welding coordinators.
03

Machining

Boring, drilling, milling and tapping on Soraluce travelling-column boring-milling machines with travels up to 26,000 × 6,000 mm.
04

Finishing and testing

Sand-blasting and painting in climate-controlled booths, dimensional inspection with a DEA gantry measuring machine and Tricord test cabin.
